God’s Not Silent: 3 Simple Ways He Speaks Daily

Ever feel like you’re talking to the ceiling when you pray? Like God’s phone went straight to voicemail? I get it. We live in a world of instant notifications and immediate responses, so when heaven seems quiet, it’s easy to wonder if God is actually listening—or speaking.

Here’s the truth that changed everything for me: God hasn’t gone silent. We’ve just forgotten how to tune in to His frequency.

1. Through His Word (Yes, Even That Verse You’ve Read a Hundred Times)

Sometimes we treat the Bible like yesterday’s news—familiar, predictable, maybe a little boring. But God loves to breathe fresh life into old words. That verse you memorized in Sunday school? He might use it to speak directly into your Monday morning anxiety.

Try this: Ask God to show you something new before you read, even if it’s just one verse. You’d be amazed how often He highlights exactly what your heart needs to hear.

2. Through Everyday Moments (The Sacred in the Ordinary)

God doesn’t only speak in burning bushes and dramatic revelations. He whispers through a friend’s unexpected text, a song on the radio that perfectly captures your struggle, or even that parking spot that opens up right when you need it most.

Try this: Start noticing patterns. When the same theme keeps showing up in conversations, sermons, or random encounters, pay attention. God often speaks through repetition because He knows we’re a little slow on the uptake (speaking from experience here!).

3. Through That Still, Small Voice Inside

This one takes practice, but it’s game-changing. God planted His Spirit inside you, which means you carry His voice wherever you go. It’s that gentle nudge to call someone, the sudden peace about a decision, or the conviction that won’t leave you alone.

Try this: Learn the difference between God’s voice and your own thoughts. His voice brings peace, aligns with His character, and often calls you to love and courage. Your anxious thoughts? They usually sound a lot more frantic and condemning.

The Bottom Line

God isn’t playing hide and seek with you. He’s not waiting for you to get your act together before He’ll speak up. He’s been talking all along—through His Word, through your ordinary Tuesday afternoon, and through that quiet voice that’s been trying to get your attention.

Start small. Pick one of these ways and pay attention for just one week. You might be surprised by how much God has been saying that you simply haven’t been hearing.

What’s one way you’ve heard God speak recently? Sometimes sharing our stories helps others recognize His voice in their own lives.

  1. So it’s not super recent, but several years ago, I got a crazy phone call that changed everything. I was absolutely spiraling and I had no idea what to do, how to handle it. Out of nowhere, I got the urge to call a specific friend. Not just any friend, this one particular long-time, fellow Christian friend. I frantically explained to her what was going on. She stayed calm. And she prayed with me, she read some chapters from a book she had that she thought might help. And she helped me come up with a plan.

This event triggered a 2.5 year journey, and I truly believe that things would have been very different had I not called that specific friend that night. And I KNOW it was God telling me to call her. He knew.

This post is a great reminder of how sometimes we are the problem, and we just need to work on listening better.
